Symptoms Treated

Bruxism – Clenching and Grinding

Bruxism is the clenching and grinding of teeth. The repeated activity and pain caused by bruxism can affect sleep quality and decrease overall health. The RiPPLE® retainer is the preventative approach to health issues. This is done by improving sleep and protecting teeth.

Daytime Sleepiness

Persistent daytime sleepiness can be an indication of a sleep disorder. If you have consistent daytime sleepiness it is most likely the warning sign of bruxism, sleep apnea or snoring (yourself or your bed partner). Often we think we’ve slept well because we are “sleeping” 7 or 8 hours during the night. However, if something is keeping you from deep, restorative sleep you will still suffer from the affects of poor sleep. Take quick sleep test by Ripple®.

Neck Pain/Headaches

Do you wake up with neck pain or headaches? It may be more than your old pillow or sleeping with your neck kinked that is causing that pain. Bruxism causes neck pain as well as headaches and/or jaw pain. A RiPPLE® will hold your jaw in a comfortable position and limit the ability to clench and protect your teeth from grinding during sleep.

Worn/Damaged Teeth

Clenching and grinding your teeth during sleep does more than keep you from healthy, restorative sleep. It will damage and wear down your teeth. Bruxism can wear your teeth down, ruin your dental work and even cause tooth breakage.

Other Symptoms and Consequences of Poor Sleep

Sleep disorders do not cause depression, however lack of sleep does play a role. Not getting enough sleep can make depression worse. Sleep is a restorative state and when sleep is continually interrupted irritability and mood issues can increase.

Cardiovascular Disease

Sleep apnea causes brief surges in blood pressure with each apnea event, which can lead to hypertension. The connection between hypertension and cardiovascular disease is well documented. When sleep apnea is treated blood pressure can go down.

Studies have shown that diabetes and poor sleep often go hand in hand. There is a link between lack of quality sleep and weight gain. When our sleep is inadequate we naturally crave foods that are high in sugar and provide a quick energy boost. Sleep is just as important as what you eat. Consistently feeling fatigued can have a negative impact on insulin production and usage.

Hormone Imbalances

During sleep our hormones reset and balance. Restorative sleep is vital to keeping our hormones in balance. Lack of quality sleep can have harmful affects on our hormone system from thyroid issues to adrenal fatigue syndrome to a multitude of other hormone imbalances. Consistent, quality sleep gives our hormones a chance to rebalance.

When we don’t sleep we crave immediately-satisfying, energy-boosting foods. This is due to both hormone secretion that makes us hungrier and using food for an energy boost. Obesity is part of the poor sleep cycle. Insufficient sleep lowers our levels leptin, which alerts the brain it’s had enough food, and increases our levels of ghrelin, which stimulates appetite. It is also difficult to burn off those extra calories when you are experiencing on going fatigue and daytime tiredness.
